The Bar Examination Loan (BEL) is a strategic financial support initiative established by the Council of Legal Education and administered by the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB).
BEL is designed to ease the financial burden associated with the bar examination fees.

Does BEL Cater for the entire full examination fees?
The amount covered depends on the assessment outcome. BEL support is determined based on eligibility and evaluation and may not necessarily cater for the full examination fees.
When do I start repaying the loan?
1.5 years after disbursement
How do I repay BEL?
You can repay BEL using different payment platforms e.g. USSD Code *642#, HELB Mobile App, Loanee Self-Serve Portal, Employers Portal: The HELB Employer portal is the entry point for Employers. For Kenyans in diaspora you can also repay using Wave, World Remit and Bank deposit.
Completion of Loan Repayment
Upon completion of loan repayment, kindly seek clearance from HELB. Please note that only HELB and not your employer can confirm your loan repayment status. HELB shall confirm loan repayment completion by issuing certificate of clearance. For clearance, please fill in the Loan Recovery Enquiry form at HELB offices or huduma centers.
Over Repayment
If you overpay your loan, you will receive a refund from HELB and not your employer. To claim refund, please fill in the Loan Recovery Enquiry form.
