CLE Audits Africa Nazarene University School of Law

The Council of Legal Education today conducted an audit of the Africa Nazarene University (ANU) School of Law following the University’s application for renewal of its training licence to continue offering the Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) Programme.

The audit was undertaken in line with the Council of Legal Education’s statutory mandate to regulate, license and supervise legal education and training in Kenya, as provided for under the Legal Education Act.

The audit team, drawn from the Directorate of Standards, Licensing, Supervision and Compliance, was led by Mr. Moses Muchiri, Deputy Director, Standards & Licensing, and Mr. Stephen Kariuki, Senior Compliance Officer, alongside other members of the Directorate.

Speaking during the exercise, Mr. Moses Muchiri noted that the audit focused on key aspects necessary for the delivery of quality legal education and training. These included the University’s Strategic Plan, curriculum development, financial sustainability, admission requirements, research and publications, library resources, staffing, and infrastructure, among other critical areas.

The exercise was attended by the University’s leadership, including Prof. Corlis McGee, Vice Chancellor; Dr. Rhonda Slingerland, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Finance); Prof. Simon Obwatho, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic & Student Affairs); Prof. Loise Musikali, Dean, School of Law; and Mr. Julian Njiriri, Chairperson, School of Law, among others.

In her remarks, Prof. Loise Musikali, Dean of the School of Law and a Council Member at CLE, commended the CLE team for undertaking a thorough and professional audit process. She reaffirmed the University’s commitment to ensuring that the ANU School of Law not only complies with, but also seeks to exceed, the regulatory standards set by the Council of Legal Education.

The audit forms part of CLE’s broader efforts to ensure that institutions offering legal education and training in Kenya maintain the standards required to produce competent, ethical and practice-ready legal professionals.
