CLE Engages KISE on Enhancing Inclusive Legal Education
The Council of Legal Education (CLE), led by the Chief Executive Officer, Prof. Jack Mwimali, and a team from the Directorate of Standards, Licensing, Supervision and Compliance, paid a consultative visit to the Kenya Institute of Special Education (KISE) to deliberate on practical measures aimed at enhancing access to legal education and training for law students with special needs and disabilities.
The engagement focused on strengthening inclusive approaches within the legal education framework. Key discussions centred on the development of inclusive assessment methods that respond to diverse learning needs, the importance of ensuring that textbooks and e-resources are aligned with Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles, and the need to make the legal profession more accessible to all, beginning from the classroom.
As part of its continued commitment to inclusion, CLE facilitated eleven (11) candidates with special needs during the November 2025 Bar Examination, through tailored support measures, including the provision of a typist. This reflects the Council’s deliberate efforts to ensure that no candidate is disadvantaged in the examination process due to disability or special learning needs.
The engagement with KISE marks a significant step towards strengthening collaboration between institutions in advancing a more inclusive, equitable, and accessible legal education and training environment in Kenya.
CLE remains committed to promoting inclusivity and equal opportunity in legal education, in line with its mandate to ensure quality and accessible legal training for all.
